Last Monday, Orlando’s sister venue to The Beacham, the Social witnessed an explosion of energy and talent as the British powerhouses YONAKA and Cassyette took the stage for a performance that will undoubtedly linger in the memories of the entire crowd. The evening showcased Yonaka's exceptional musical prowess. It celebrated the burgeoning influence of females in the music industry, with both the Brighton-based Yonaka and the opening act, Essex-based Cassyette, fronted by formidable female musicians.
The night kicked off with Cassette, an emerging force from Essex that set the tone for the evening with their raw and unapologetic sound. The stage lineup demonstrated an impressive blend of screams and alternative rock, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating what the rest of the night had in store. We certainly were.
As the lights dimmed and the crowd's anticipation reached its peak, Yonaka burst onto the stage with an electrifying presence. Theresa Jarvis, the lead vocalist, immediately seized the audience's attention with her dynamic stage presence and powerful vocals. Jarvis effortlessly navigated the range from hauntingly melodic to fiercely intense, proving herself as a force to be reckoned with as a leading artist. Another of the standout features of Yonaka's performance was the impeccable drum tracking provided by their touring drummer for this leg. The thunderous beats and precision of his drumming added an extra layer of intensity to the already high-energy set. Standing by it you were entranced, it was impeccable. The synchronicity between the band members was palpable, creating an experience that resonated throughout the venue.
The setlist showcased the versatility of Yonaka's sound, moving seamlessly between their gritty, anthemic tracks and more soulful, introspective pieces. The crowd responded with an infectious energy, working from Predator to Rockstar, feeding off the band's enthusiasm while creating a relationship between performers and the audience.
It was so inspiring to myself and others at the Social last week to see both Yonaka and Cassyette, two female-fronted groups, commanding the stage and captivating the audience with their music. With an abundance of energy, and incredible vocals, the night was not just a celebration of great music in Orlando’s area, but also a testament to the growing influence of women in the male-dominated realm of rock and alternative music.
